The Carlisle High School Band program, established during the 1926-27 school year, has a long and distinguished history of local, national, and international recognition for its excellence.  A source of great community pride, the high school band program has included hundreds, if not thousands,  of student participants.  There are former band members in nearly all walks of life, from music educators, teachers, performers, conductors, authors, doctors, lawyers, mechanics, plumbers, technicians, homemakers, tradesmen, artists, corporate executives, law enforcement, members of the armed services, to many more not listed here.  All of our former members have had a part in creating the band program’s standard of excellence that has been widely recognized and continues today.

This award is intended to recognize a former member of the Carlisle High School Band who graduated from Carlisle High School and has distinguished themselves by achieving outstanding accomplishments in their chosen field, has served their communities, state, or nation, and will serve as a role model for current and future Carlisle High School band members.

The candidate must have been a member of the Carlisle High School Band at the time of their graduation from Carlisle High School and must have graduated at least ten (10) years prior to being nominated for this award. An exception to the ten year graduation qualification requirement can be made by the Selection Committee to recognize a band alumnus for an extraordinary event that meets the stated purpose of this award and can be awarded posthumously.

(Footnote:  The idea of establishing an alumni band award originated with Dave Rohrer, Band Director from 1982-2012, and Joshua Readshaw, a 2010 band graduate.)

Nomination forms for the award must be submitted annually to the band director (Byron Mikesell) before July 1st. The award recipient will be notified by the end of September.

Candidates may be nominated by anyone, but please read through the Distinguished Alumnus Award Description document before submitting your nomination to ensure that your candidate meets the qualification requirements.
