Mr. Perry P. Heath, 2019-2020 Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipient

Perry Heath is the recipient of the 2019 – 2020 Carlisle High School Band Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was a member of The Big Green Machine from 1967 to 1971 and is a proud member of the World Champion Band that competed and toured Europe in the summer of 1970. He would later serve as a member and President of the Band Boosters during the tenure of his son David in the band.

After graduation from Carlisle High School in 1971, Mr. Heath enrolled at Penn State University where he received a degree in Corrections in 1975. In 1989, he received a Master’s Degree in Social Service Administration from Case Western Reserve University. He completed the Executive Management and Strategic Management of Nonprofit Organizations certificate programs at Harvard University.

For nearly twenty years, Mr. Heath served in various positions of increasing responsibility for United Ways in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, and Virginia. His leadership positions included membership on the United Way National Professional Advisory Council and the National President’s Roundtable. He was the first fulltime executive director of the United Way in Carlisle.

In 2002, Mr. Heath returned to Carlisle to accept the position of Director of Business Development for the local general construction, design/build, and construction management firm R. S. Mowery & Sons, Inc.

Since his return to Carlisle, Perry has devoted countless hours to local government as a 12-year member of Carlisle Borough Council for which he served as President for four years from 2012 through 2015. His service on Borough Council has also included chairing the Downtown Improvement District Task Force, the Parks & Recreation Committee, the Police Contract Negotiating Committee, the Economic Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee.

His ten plus years of service on The Salvation Army Advisory Board included chairing the Resource Development and Strategic Planning Committees.

Perry’s years of service on the Board of Directors of the Partnership for Better Health, formerly the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation, has included serving as Chairman of the Board and leadership of various committees of that organization.

Mr. Heath has also served the community as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of the Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce. He has occupied several leadership roles in the Rotary Club of Carlisle Sunrise and has volunteered with Junior Achievement of Central Pennsylvania and as a member of the Board of Directors of Carlisle Area Lacrosse, Inc. As a member of the vestry at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Perry serves as Property Committee Chair and has shared his fund-raising expertise by serving on the stewardship committee. Perry was honored as the recipient of the prestigious Exchange Club of Carlisle Molly Pitcher Award as Carlisle Area Citizen of the Year for 2015.

Perry lives with his wife of 40 years, Sue, on Parker Street in Carlisle. They are the parents of two daughters and a son and are grandparents of Ellie, age 2 and Riley, age 3 granddaughters.
